Darrell Davis: Coach Jones lost the game

Saskatchewan Roughriders boss Chris Jones proved that coaches can lose football games.    His decision to replace quarterback Kevin Glenn with Brandon Bridge for two plays late in the fourth quarter of Saskatchewan’s CFL game was boneheaded. And it basically cost the Roughriders a chance to win a game they lost 17-16 to the Montreal Alouettes.    Glenn, a veteran, had rhythmically moved his offence to Montreal’s 13-yard line. Jones, who is responsible for every decision made by the Riders, inserted Bridge, a less-experienced quarterback, who had spent most of the game on the bench. Jones said the team wanted to use its wildcat package plus another passing play designed for Bridge.    The decision totally messed up the Roughriders. Instead of a touchdown, they scored a field goal. Montreal responded with a go-ahead field goal and stole the victory when Saskatchewan’s kicker missed a last-second three-pointer. Don’t blame the kicker, blame the coach.
